ABOUT ANNE FONTENOY

Anne Fontenoy started to sew and draw when she was about 4 years old and she began making patterns for dresses when aged about 12 years.  She trained in the 1970s in various art studios, at first as a paste-up artist in a small independent studio, Sterling Studios.  In this art studio most of the work was pasting by hand, the balloons and “thinks” bubbles of text, either typed or hand written, onto the artwork for comics and teenage magazines published by IPC Publications.  She then had a job painting make-up with oil paints on display mannequins for a mannequin renovation company, Modreno. After that she worked for a very small company, E G Stevens, that made completely hand made belts and buttons for the couture houses, followed by a position at NCR producing hand drawn artwork and flow charts for their manuals as well as hand drafted forms (pen and ink) for data entry. She then gained extensive administrative and secretarial experience for the first few years of her freelance design career, which started in 1981.  This included 6 years as the permanent part-time temp for the editorial office of the British Journal of Surgery.  Freelance activities were full time from 1987.

STUDY

She has studied Computer Graphics & DTP and has an A level in IT.  She has an Open University Bachelor of Arts Open Degree with the designatory letters BA Open (Open), which is composed of study of the following courses and stand alone qualifications:

FINE ART & DRESS DESIGN

Her creative work as a dress designer/dressmaker includes designs for ladies hand made dresses such as wedding dresses and evening dresses.  She aspires to keep the tradition of couture alive, as every garment is hand crafted, specialising in silk clothes, in particular wedding dresses, evening dresses and classic day wear designed using mostly silk and natural fabrics although she will sometimes work with quality synthetics.  She also designs surface decoration such as silk painting, embroidery and beadwork.  Her creative work as a visual artist includes airbrushed images, pictures in pen & ink, pencil pictures, oil pastel pictures and other hand made pictures, as well as computer graphics.  These include her ‘Digital Collection’, a range of digital images produced as note cards, greetings cards, notelets and Giclée prints.
